I made it to Portage in 5 hours and 23 minutes instead of 6+ hours. I drove 80-85mph pretty much the whole way through Iowa. Then had to slow down for a while in Illinois cuz of Police presence. Then in Indiana we actually came to a 4 lane stop for a car pulled off the side of the road. But I made it, that’s the important thing. I am at my mom and brother’s house. I was in a lot of pain, but took a pain pill and a Flexeril and am somewhat loopy now, but not really in pain. Or too loopy to notice the pain now. One or the other. It was a pleasant drive, a little longer than I want it to be, but nice enough. Weird thing, Adel has about a 9 inch snow pack and basically once I got out of Iowa, there was very little snow on the ground.
The weather was really nice on the trip. Considerably colder in Adel then the 40+ degree day here in Portage. Its supposed to get into the 50s tomorrow here. Its barely supposed to break freezing in Adel tomorrow. I think I prefer here tomorrow. Rain vs Freezing Rain. Jacket vs Heavy Coat.
I didn’t stop for lunch on the trip here, so mom took me to Steak n Shake here in Portage. Ruby joined us, it was nice to see Ruby again. She says I look healthy, I feel healthy. I feel great. Steak n Shake was great too. I didn’t get a shake cuz I never finish them. But I have a BBQ Bacon Steakburger and fries, it was really good.
26 days till Spring.
ArctiCon is tomorrow. I thought I was going to play in Shannon’s Call of Cthulhu game from 5 to 9 but I might just do his 11 to 3 game instead so I can try out Ars Magica from 5 to 9. I have heard good things about that game before. Its been around for several years, the DM is supposed to be really good. So, I may have most of my day planned.
I plan to be there by 8am so I can get one of the free games they are giving away to first 150 people who pay admission. They are silly games, but I want one. And free with the price of admission is cool.
If I had more notice of this convention, I would’ve volunteered to run something. But a week and a half notice, I am just going as a player (and a business man, more on that in a little bit).
Ruby has been to events at the reception hall before, she says it’s big enough to hold 400+ people with no problem. So this event should be cool.
I think the excitement of coming here was what is affecting my sleeping. I hope I sleep well tonight, so I can get up at 6:30 intentionally tomorrow morning. It takes 30-45 minutes to get there according to my mom and Ruby. Gotta be there by 8. So leaving here at 7:15, just in case. If I am really early, I will volunteer to help set things up.
The big business announcement is tomorrow too. I thank all of you who have waited patiently for me to make this announcement. I promise it will happen tomorrow.
Programming on the website starts on Tuesday the 26th instead of waiting till the 1st. Silly to wait, get a few extra days in. Might just make that March 31st date yet. Got a book on PHP and MySQL to use as a reference and get me going on the PHP parts of the site. Supposedly PHP and JavaScript get along to a certain extent. I hope that is true.
If it comes down to having to choose, I will choose PHP which I know little about over JavaScript which I took the class on. Reason being is that there are PHP has plugins that do a lot of the work for you. And I am gonna use every short cut that I can to get this site done.
Oh yeah, I got business cards to give out at the convention, thus the businessman comment earlier in this blog entry. The cards just say the name, who I am, and a expected launch date of March 31st. We shall see if I can sell people on the idea.
