What happened at Mayo and more

I really hate the days when Mayo schedules us for early morning appointments and then last of the day appointments.  That is what happened yesterday, turns it in to 19 hour day, which my body is just not really ready to handle now.  Then after forcing myself to be awake for 19 hours, I hand problems falling asleep.  We started watching a movie, Teresa fell asleep about 15 minutes to one hour in.  When she started her deep snore, I turned the tv off.  It a pretty bad movie called Skyscraper.  You know, with Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson.  Well, it was bad, and I hurt, and I was grumpy, so I shut the movie off and tried to go to sleep, some time after midnight (so I was up from 3:13am till after midnight, I finally fell asleep.

Funny thing happened though.  Nurse Sarah totally geeked out when I told her I went to a gaming convention.  She asked a ton of questions and then told us that her and her friends play Gloomhaven.  I do not know much about Gloomhaven but she pointed out that it doesn’t require a Dungeon Master, so no one is stuck in that role.  LOL.  Any, it struck me as funny that a Nurse would geek out to a patient, she lost all professionalism for a good five to ten minutes while we talked about it.  I know Nurses are people too, but it just made me laugh.

13 days until Spring officially is here.  As its snowing today.  Starting tomorrow its supposed to warm up.  I even saw a 46 in the forecast.  There was only one wintry mix into rain in the forecast.  SWEET.  We may get Spring when Spring actually gets here.  It’s going to be so nice that I am going to have lunch with my wife on Monday since I am going to be downtown anyway.  Seems like the thing to do.

I coughed when I got home last night.  More proof that whatever it is that is causing it is directly related to Adel.  It’s fine, I will cough some every day and a lot every night from now until I am no longer on this mortal coil.  It’s not a bad cough during the day, at night it sounds worse.  Should be fun in the D&D game since I can’t control the cough so I might be barking into the mic.  Oh well.  It’s could be worse.

Forgetting my iPhone yesterday was annoying.  I can’t believe I did that.  I never go anywhere with it and here I went leaving it behind for a 19 hour day.   Really smooth on my part.  Luckily, Teresa was the only one who tried to text me.  And the only phone call I got made no sense.  So it’s all good.  I will endeavor to not be an idiot and forget my phone again because it was just plain weird.

OK, here’s the deal.  Dr. Alkhateeb forgot to request or rather have someone else request insurance approval to give me the stem cell transfusions.  So it’s happening now.  We are gonna start with a very small amount, and see what happens.  Then increase it in a month, and then again one month later.  So, I am gonna have 3 of these procedures.  Each time I have to see him in the morning, get the transfusion in the afternoon, and then see him again the next day to make sure I am doing ok.  Then I get to go home.  So, it’s an overnight thing.  Hopefully not on Mondays or Tuesdays.

Anyhow, the reason we are doing these is to bolster my new bone marrow/stem cell system to help it keep fighting off the MDS and AML.  The way he explained it just went in one ear and out the other for me.  But Teresa got it and explained it to me later, so it’s all good now.  Hey, I have the easy part.  Effectively I get a blood transfusion monthly for 3 months.  No problem.  Just have to deal with GvHD again.  Boo.

So, the reality of the GvHD again is all the things the scared me before have a chance of happening again.  Blindness, Lung Problems, Upper or Lower GI Problems, Eye Problems, Death, yep all of the scary cards are back in the playing deck.  However, since I didn’t have real bad GvHD the first time, odds are in my favor to NOT have real bad GvHD the 2nd 3rd and 4th times either.  So, here’s hoping for good results there, more dry skin would be nice, I can deal with that.

So anyway, this is gonna start happening as soon as he gets the approval from the insurance company.  So probably it will start early April.  Then May and finally in June.  I should be ok for Jim’s annual summer party on June 22nd.  That’s important to me.
