Last days in the Region and the trip home

Allergies be damned, I tried (and succeeded) to have a good time while at my mom and brother’s.  Thursday morning, Jennifer picked me up at 10am for brunch.   We had biscuits and gravy at Schoops.  I believe the restaurant has been there for a long time, but I have never eaten there before.  Their biscuits and gravy were really good.  Jenny wouldn’t let me pay.  So, she bought brunch and then had to go.  Short visit with a good friend.

Didn’t do much for that afternoon.  It was just a lazy hot day.  Played a little Skyrim, but mainly just chatted with mom.  Did decide to have my Ain’t Dead Yet party in August.  (more on that later) Wasted time till Jim woke up at 7.  At which point we set out to have dinner at Olive Garden in Michigan City.  My brother blew passed both of the Michigan City exits and we ended up turning around in Michigan state.  Finally we got to Michigan City and had a nice dinner.  We got home, Jim was a little late for work, but not enough to miss out on 10 hours of overtime.  Mom and I Just sit and chatted.

Friday was a day of sleeping in.  Then a trip to Merrillville to Steak and Shake, since the one in Portage closed.  It was pretty good, not the best, but pretty good.  I love their western bbq bacon steakburger.  Anyhow, that was what we did in the early afternoon.  Then we went home and I cleaned up my mess I made in the bedroom and packed.  Then we went for me to catch the bus back to O’Hare.  It was supposed to be there at 5:50 but we were there from 5:30 and he didn’t show, so I called.  He was running very behind.  At 6:15 we pulled out of Portage.  Mind you if on time I only had an hour and a half between when the bus pulled into O’Hare and my plan finished boarding.  Luckily I blew thru baggage drop off and even TSA was just a walk thru.  They only patted down my arms.  I always get patted down somewhere by TSA, I can’t just walk through.  Anyhow, by this time I had found my plane had switched gates and was delayed.  Good thing because I would have missed my plane if it had been on time.

Anyhow, 2 hours later the plane boarded and we landed at 12:01.  Officially tomorrow (today).  Then after I got my luggage and proceeded to the little shuttle to the remote lot.  Got in my car and it didn’t want to move.  The parking break didn’t want to release.   We have had this problem before.  Luckily forcing the car to move got the break to release and I got home at 1:15am.  I was one tired guy, but I was wired tired, didn’t fall asleep easy.  But did fall asleep eventually and slept till 7 when Alexa chimed I needed to take my pills.  Now I am awakeish.

My brother and mother have agreed to allow me to host my Ain’t Dead Yet party at their place in August.  The date, August 10th, was not randomly chosen.  It was chosen because it’s the weekend after GenCon and the weekend before school starts.  So, anyhow, I created the Facebook page and invited 61 people.  Not all spouses received facebook invites, but they are invited too.  Getting a lot of maybes.  But a good share of I’m comings.  Just a few can’t come.  It happens.  Dear reader, if you want to come, send me your snail mail to and I will snail mail you an invite.

At the party, we are supplying all the food and pop and water.  People have to bring their own alcohol.  —-  No babies, I am still immune deficient and the immunization doc said avoid babies. So babies are banned. —–  We got plenty of parking at the school across the street.  So, it’s all good.

So anyhow, I am headed back to the Region in August to host said party.  Got to be there a few days ahead to get things set up.  And then a few days after to help clean up.  It’s good, I get to spend more time with my mom and brother.  Oh yeah, my brother has to work that day and doesn’t get to come to the party.  DOH.

And with that, that was what happened, what was decided, and what was planned while I was in the Region.  It was a nice visit, but I am glad to be back home.  I missed Teresa and the dogs.  I missed my pillow.  I missed my bed.  Yeah, this house in Adel, Iowa is home.

On Monday I am going to call an allergist.  My allergies were through the roof.   I don’t want to go on allergy shots again, but maybe there is a better OTC allergy pill that won’t put me to sleep.  So, since it’s all free now (I have made my deductible) I might as well go see a specialist.

And my knee is still messed up.  Time to go see an orthopod.  Maybe get an MRI, cause X-rays showed nothing.  And yes, I plan to take advantage of my free medical care.  Thank you Anthem Blue Cross.

Beyond allergies and my knee, I feel really good.  Yeah, I feel better then I have in a long time.   Strange that I had to go through such a horrific ordeal to get feeling this good, but hey I feel great whatever the cause.

Tomorrow I go for a teeth cleaning at Teresa’s dentist.  The dentist I liked where I used to go left, so I needed to switch and Teresa swears by this lady dentist.  So, it’s all good, been 2 years since I have had my teeth cleaned gonna take a long while.  But hey, it’s gotta be done.

Tuesday I go see a new shrink.  Teresa is going with me.  We just don’t want him to change my meds.  But we shall see how it goes.   I am going into this with an open mind.
