Let there be blood

Today, August 21, 2020, was a hot and muggy day. We are supposed to have several hot and muggy days in a row before the temp drops back to being reasonable. I shouldn’t complain, basically temps are right where August temps are normally.

We went to get blood today, much to our surprise Dr. Wehbe ordered 2 bags. That means 5 hours at the infusion center for us today. Well, I do feel considerably better for the 2 units of blood. I actually was remembered by some of the nurses at the infusion center. Heh, its nice to be remembered after 8 months of not going there. Long day sitting in a semi-comfortable chair but at least Teresa got to be there with me.

While at the infusion center, MAYO called Teresa. They wanted me to come up there and be admitted to the hospital this weekend. Like Hell. Dr. Alkhateeb is on vacation, so a different doc got Teresa’s message. That doctor was very concerned that I wasn’t getting proper care here in Iowa. But they agreed in me getting a bone marrow biopsy. They were also pleased I got blood today. And they promised that Dr. Alkhateeb would be calling Dr. Wehbe on Monday (which Teresa and I are not holding our breath for). Teresa was on the phone with the nurse from Mayo for a good twenty minutes saying we were getting good care here. Like I have said before I trust Dr. Wehbe more than I trust Dr. Alkhateeb. But Dr. Alkhateeb is the Doc in charge. So, I figure Dr. Alkhateeb will call Teresa or myself on Monday and try to brow beat me into making the trip up to Mayo to be admitted and to get Wehbe’s phone number.

My mother and brother will be here tomorrow and are staying until Wednesday. It will be so great to see them. I can’t believe they are driving the 9+ hours when they could have flown a lot quicker. But secretly I think Jim likes to drive his new Rav 4. So, hopefully they will arrive some time before dinner time. But see, I can’t go into the hospital while they are here, that would be rude of me.

I hope that Dr. Alkhateeb has a similar reaction to what the other doctor at Mayo did. I hope Dr. Alkhateeb doesn’t freak out and just demand we come up to Mayo to be admitted. I am doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances. And Dr. Wehbe is taking good care of me. So, postponing getting admitted for a week or two would probably be the sensible thing to do. I know that the best place for me to be treated right now is Mayo Clinic, but I know as of right now I am getting excellent care here in Iowa.
